If you look closely at Camden Elementary School, you’ll find there are some new friends brightening up the property! Thanks to grant funding and the generosity of the Camden Elementary PTO, seven brand new Red Maple trees have been planted on the premises. As they grow, they’ll provide enhanced greenery and shade around the school building. The trees were carefully planted by DNC Landscaping, Inc., one of Camden’s very own small businesses. The company is owned by Camden Elementary School alumni Nick and Kassidy Britton, and fellow alumnus Aaron Storace also works with the company. Some younger members of our CES Community also turned up to help with planting! In these pictures, you’ll see third graders Kyler Britton and Emilia Salmon, kindergartners Reid and Luke Platt, and second grader Harper Smith! Thanks to the DNC team and the Camden Elementary School PTO for their efforts, which will leave a lasting impression on the CES campus!

Mrs. Keller and Mrs. Littler's class made some Mesopotamian-style Cuneiforms for their unit on early world civilizations! Cuneiforms are an ancient system of written communication using symbols!

On Monday, nonfiction author Kevin Kurtz visited McConnellsville and Camden Elementary schools. In his books you can find information about animal habitats, science, nature, and more! Students were engaged in his discussion about his experiences as an author, working in an aquarium, and even spending time on a ship to study the ocean! Many of his books can be found in the elementary school libraries if your student is interested in learning more!

Mrs. Malenowski recently hosted Mrs. Hollis and her students for a fun-filled session of STEAM activities as a reward for good classroom behavior. The kids had a great time collaborating and exploring!

Camden's agriculture program was fortunate to receive some floral donations from local funeral homes in Camden and Rome, and the classes have wasted no time putting them to use! Greenhouse management students spent their class time organizing and preserving the flowers in the floral cooler so that they can be used for projects in Camden Middle School's Floral Design class!

This week is American Education Week! Organized by the National Education Association, American Education Week is a week set aside to celebrate public education, and the efforts of support staff, teachers, administrators, and families toward supporting students' education.

As the winter sports season gets going, two Camden High School student-athletes will once again be competing in the sport of ice hockey! Brothers Brodie and Evan Buckingham will play as part of the Mohawk Valley Jugglers ice hockey program this winter. The Jugglers are a co-op organization of players from 11 local high schools who do not sponsor their own ice hockey team. It provides those students with an opportunity to play hockey at this level. It was born from the remnants of the former Thomas R. Proctor High School program many years ago, and continues today under the jurisdiction of its host school, Utica Notre Dame. The team receives only a limited amount of funding from its host school, and the majority of operating costs must be covered through fundraising and out-of-pocket expenses. And with hockey, the operating costs are quite substantial. One of the ways you can help support the team and defray costs is through sponsorship. Please take a moment to review the attached sponsorship information, and consider supporting the team this season in their endeavors if you can do so. The team primarily plays its home games at the Utica University Nexus Center in Utica. If you need a closer place to Camden to cheer them on, you can also find them at Rome’s Kennedy Arena at the annual Bobby Ciccotti Memorial Tournament hosted by RFA on December 6th and 7th. That tournament features an all-Oneida County field with Whitesboro and New Hartford rounding out the competition. Join the National Honor Society, Camden High School Chapter, on Wednesday, November 20th as the Chapter holds its annual induction ceremony!

On Friday, members of the CHS Broadcasting and Journalism club visited the CMS Musical Cast ahead of their second performance! Their goal is to produce a behind the scenes video about the show with cast interviews. Stay tuned!

It's back!!! The Camden CSD Athletic Department offers you a first glimpse at our 2024-25 basketball squads with the annual Blue Devil HoopsFest Event! There will be a three point competition, skills competitions, intrasquad scrimmages, and a crowd favorite: the annual "Coaches vs. Cops" game! The fun happens on Friday, November 22nd at 6 PM at the CHS Main Gym! Admission is free and the concession stand will be open with a limited selection of items.

Sometimes a little treat is nice to wrap up the week. This afternoon, we had the opportunity to host representatives from Dunkin Donuts through the High School Nation Program! They passed out gift cards and free samples of their Strawberry Dragonfruit Refresher product. There was also a large Connect Four game in the cafeteria, which Mrs. Ciotti and Mrs. Rose were happy to pick up and play. There's an urban legend out there that says Mrs. Ciotti can win a game of Connect Four in only three moves, but Mrs. Rose was our winner today.

The Nordic Ski Team is looking for interested student-athletes for this winter. No experience is necessary. Opportunities exist at the Varsity and Modified levels! You know about Motorcycles..... but what about a Willy Wonka Motorcycle? We've got one on display for our CMS Musical Performances of "Willy Wonka Jr.", thanks to the generosity of Mr. Ron Engel! For a small donation before the show, you can have your photo taken with this incredible work of art, with proceeds to benefit future musical productions at CMS. During the school day, it is living in the CMS Library Media Center along with a curated collection of books by the story's author, Roald Dahl. If you know how many miles per gallon it gets running on a tank of Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drinks, please let us know. It's for science.

Friendly Reminder to Winter Athletes: On November 21st, a mandatory player and parent/guardian information meeting will occur at 6:00 PM in the Camden High School Auditorium. This meeting will provide information and expectations for the 2024-2025 Winter season. After this meeting, all winter sports programs will host pre-season team meetings. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Paul Muench. Paul has over 30 years of experience in education. He served as a teacher and Head Football Coach at Oswego and Fayetteville-Manlius High Schools. As President of Daneli Partners, Paul conducts leadership development seminars for businesses, schools, athletic programs, and nonprofits, focusing on motivation and team building.
