The Camden varsity alpine ski team continued its tradition of championship success on Wednesday, February 14th. The Blue Devils competed at the Section III Alpine Ski Championships held at McCauley Mountain in Old Forge.
The Blue Devil boys were headlined by junior Billy Bernabe, who completed his ascent to the top of the Giant Slalom podium after a runner-up finish a season ago. He also reprised his second place finish in the Slalom. Billy will compete for the state’s top honors when he attends the 2024 State Championship meet to be held at Whiteface Mountain on February 26th and 27th.
Junior Dylan Poole was 13th in the Slalom and 17th in the Giant Slalom. Newcomer Jacob Lago placed 20th and 19th in Slalom and Giant Slalom, respectively, to wrap up his first season with the squad. The junior displayed tremendous control on his runners, as he did not record a “Did Not Finish” result at any point during the season.
In the girls’ championship, first year competitor Abigail Arnold put down four solid runs on the slopes. The sophomore was 20th in Slalom competition, and 21st in Giant Slalom competition.
