On Monday, nonfiction author Kevin Kurtz visited McConnellsville and Camden Elementary schools. In his books you can find information about animal habitats, science, nature, and more! Students were engaged in his discussion about his experiences as an author, working in an aquarium, and even spending time on a ship to study the ocean! Many of his books can be found in the elementary school libraries if your student is interested in learning more!

A bit of spare change has added up to make a big difference for some local animals seeking a new home. Mrs. Malenowski's third grade IFA reading group at McConnellsville Elementary School is pleased to announce that they have raised an impressive $825.19 from this year's "Pennies for Puppies, Coins for Kitties" initiative!
During this event, the third graders in the group challenge their fellow students to bring in as much spare change from home as possible to support the animals at the Rome Humane Society. This year, the fundraiser ran from October 22nd until November 4th.
While supporting a good cause, the students learn a lot about communication skills, leadership, and setting goals. In this case, the students set an original goal of $350.00, and with the help of their peers, they quickly surged past that number. The group then decided to challenge themselves even further by aiming for more than $750.00, and they smashed that mark as well!
Thanks to all who stepped up to support this effort!
