UPDATE: On Thursday, June 20th, the Camden Elementary School PTO and Camden Elementary School Principal Craig Ferretti received a letter of apology from Mr. Adams regarding his allegations made about the Camden PTO’s Color Blast event held on June 1st.
After speaking with PTO President Chuck Hurd and Mr. Ferretti, we would like to collectively acknowledge that letter of apology and state that we are satisfied with its contents. It is appreciated.
We are moving forward as a community and as a district with a continued focus on delivering the best possible experience for our students. Organizations such as the Camden Elementary PTO play a crucial role in accomplishing that mission.
(Original Statement)
At the Board of Education meeting dated June 11th, community member John Adams spoke during the Privilege of the Floor portion of the meeting. He alleged that a phallic symbol was drawn on public streets during the recent Camden Color Blast event on Saturday, June 1st.
Following the comments by Mr. Adams, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ravo Root pointed out the information shared with him about these allegations by Camden Elementary School Principal Craig Ferretti, who was on-site during the entire event from set-up to tear-down.
The following pieces of information were shared.
1. Many of the children attending this event were under direct parental supervision throughout the event.
2. Numerous administrators, faculty members, staff members, and community volunteers supervised the event, and at no time did any of these individuals observe the drawing of this symbol.
Therefore, the District has no reason to believe that the symbol was drawn during the event, and maintains no jurisdiction over what takes place before or after the event.
The event was a tremendous success that raised money for the Camden Elementary School PTO and its mission of supporting our students. It continues to succeed through the efforts of the PTO in partnership with our faculty, staff, and community. We have and will continue to support the PTO and its volunteers in accomplishing the mission of supporting our students.
The Superintendent of Schools was satisfied with the information provided by Mr. Ferretti and there will be no further action at this time.
