Reading Extravaganza

When you read, you can be your own superhero! That was the idea as the Camden Central School District played host to its Title I Reading Extravaganza on Thursday, November 7th.

This year’s theme was “Reading is My Superpower Family Night.”

The event, open to all Camden Middle School, Camden Elementary School, and McConnellsville Elementary School, is a Title I reading event.

Covered under the Every Student Succeeds Act, Title I represents a form of financial assistance that helps provide all children with a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and also to close educational achievement gaps among groups of students. This federal program provides supplemental financial assistance to school districts/schools.

In Camden, one of the ways that funding is used is to support literacy programming like this event.

Students and families had a wide range of experiences at their disposal during the 90 minute event. All students received a free book of their choice funded by Title I, and could also shop selections from the Scholastic Book Fair in the gymnasium. There were also Arts and Crafts opportunities, a balloon animal station, and a superhero photo booth staffed by student volunteers from Camden High School. Attendees were also treated to a juggling performance in the rear gymnasium, and a special evening performance by accomplished children's author and musician Eric Litwin in the front gymnasium. Eric is the original author of the popular "Pete The Cat" series.

Food for attendees was provided by Dean's Concessions.

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate reading, and to everyone who helped make this event successful!
