During the afternoon of Thursday, September 12th, Camden Middle School Administrators received a document from two concerned students and a parent after instruction had concluded for the day. On that document was an image that contained a list of schools that included a “Camden Middle School” on it.

This list was recently circulated by users on social media platforms including TikTok. The schools on the list were under a heading called “Targeted/Assisted”, and the list was brought to the attention of administrators because it was shared on social media platforms in a potentially threatening context.

The District quickly approached the Oneida County Sheriff's Office to investigate the matter.

Through our cooperative efforts, we have established that there is no credible evidence of a threat toward any Camden Central School District building, and that no Camden staff or students are in danger. We intend to proceed with all school activities as planned on Friday, September 13th.

We are passing along the following items of information that supported our investigation.

  • The schools on the list presented were all located in the State of Georgia, including the “Camden Middle School” that was listed.

  • “Targeted/Assisted” is a common classification used by government education agencies to describe schools that provide supplemental services to students who are at risk of not meeting state academic standards.

  • The list presented appears to have been published by the Georgia State Education Department.

The District is thankful to its law enforcement partners at the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt assistance in ensuring our staff and students are safe. We are also grateful to the students and parent that brought this issue to our attention. Through our collaborative efforts, we continue to place the safety of our school community in the highest regard.
