McConnellsville Elementary School second graders recently wrapped up a unit on tall tales and fairy tales, and celebrated their learning with a larger-than-life culminating activity on Friday, September 20th.
During their unit, Mrs. Holmes, Mrs. Fairbrother, and Miss Schaefer led their classes through a variety of stories, and discussed the similarities and differences between the two types of stories.
As a culminating activity, students chose a favorite character from a story they read and dressed up as that character. The classrooms were full of princesses, Paul Bunyans, Pecos Bills, and other larger-than-life figures.
In one of the stories about Paul Bunyan, a character named Sourdough Sam makes colossal flapjacks for Paul Bunyan. Mrs. Holmes dressed up as Sourdough Sam, and while colossal flapjacks might exceed even the largest appetites second graders can bring, she did made the second graders a colossal amount of pancakes, 138 in all!
